3 Open Enrollment Must-Dos!

Don’t forget these important steps.

1

Complete the Working Spouse Health Coverage Verification Process by Nov. 30, 2023.

You will need to verify/reverify your spouse’s access to other health care coverage through his/her employer. If you don’t take this step and want to cover your spouse under the Parkland Employee Health Plan (PEHP), you will pay the spousal surcharge of $75 per pay period.

2

Re-enroll for flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and the Health Savings Account (HSA).

Health Care, Dependent Care FSA and HSA elections do not carry over from year to year.

OE: How To Enroll

Take a screenshot of your benefit elections.

After making your 2024 benefit elections in PeopleSoft (MyParkland), review them to ensure they’re correct. Take a screenshot of the summary of your final elections. Your confirmation statement will be available after the Open Enrollment period closes. You will not be able to change your benefits until the next Open Enrollment unless you have a qualified status change.

  • Cover your spouse. Verify/reverify your spouse’s access to other health care coverage through his/her employer. You will receive a letter from Impact Interactive during the first week of November. You must complete the verification process by Nov. 30, 2023. See 3 Open Enrollment Must-Dos above.
  • Enroll in a flexible spending account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) for 2024. If you don’t enroll, you won’t be able to participate in the Health Care FSA, Dependent Care FSA or HSA for 2024.

Make sure you provide Social Security numbers.

The law requires that you provide Parkland with a Social Security number for all covered dependents in the medical plan. Dependents can’t be enrolled without a Social Security number.

Verify your emergency contacts in PeopleSoft.

Make sure your emergency contacts are up-to-date. Go to MyParkland > Personal Information > Personal Details > Emergency Contacts.

Enroll or make changes by the deadline (Oct. 23, 2023).

Open Enrollment is your once-a-year opportunity to change your benefit elections. Log on to PeopleSoft at https://hr.parklandhealth.org/pshr/signon.html. For detailed enrollment instructions, see Easy Steps To Enroll Online below.

Don’t need to take any action as described above or make changes?

If you’re happy with your current benefits, no action is required during Open Enrollment. But it’s a good idea to verify your current mailing address, emergency contacts and contact information on file, as well as review your beneficiaries for life and AD&D insurance as well as retirement benefits each year.

If You're Enrolling as a New Hire

  • As a new hire, you must enroll in all benefits (other than the Supplemental Retirement Plan) within 30 days of your hire date for coverage to begin when you become eligible. To enroll as a new hire, review the “Easy Steps To Enroll Online” above. You will enroll once for both 2023 and 2024 benefits. For 2023 benefits information, go to Resources in the top navigation and select 2023 Benefits.
  • If you do not complete your online benefits enrollment by the deadline as a new hire, you may not enroll for benefits until the next Open Enrollment in October 2024 (for benefits that will be effective on Jan. 1, 2025) unless you have a qualified life event during 2024. Additionally, you will not be enrolled for coverage under any optional plan.
  • The optional benefits you choose when you enroll will be in effect for the rest of 2023 and for 2024. See your costs here (you’ll pay the same costs in 2023 and 2024).
  • Review your options carefully. Once you enroll, you will not have an option to make changes until the next Open Enrollment in October 2024 or if you have a qualified status change.
  • If you are eligible, you will be automatically enrolled in the Retirement Income Plan (if full-time), part-time mandatory contributions, Employee Assistance Program (EAP), core disability and basic life insurance.
