Maternity CARE

New for 2022, PEHP members can pay just a $250 flat fee to deliver a baby. This copay covers all services, including anesthesiology and facility charges. To receive this new benefit, you must go to the new Employee Women’s Wellness Center for doctor’s visits during your pregnancy and deliver at Parkland.

If you enroll in the Maternity CARE program through Care Management at UMR, visit a doctor who is not at the Employee Women’s Wellness Center and deliver at Parkland, you will continue to pay a $500 flat fee for the birth.

To be eligible for either of these incentives, you must enroll in the Maternity CARE program during your first or second trimester and continue to participate in the program each trimester of your pregnancy.

Medical

Emergency Care

The Parkland Employee Health Plan (PEHP) will no longer cover visits to out-of-network, free-standing emergency rooms, which are facilities that:

  • Provide emergency medical services at a place outside of a regular hospital campus, and
  • Are not attached to a hospital or even located near one.

Visits to a hospital emergency room will continue to be covered. For details on emergency care in the PEHP, see the Medical section.

Gender Reassignment Surgery

The PEHP will cover gender reassignment surgery (genital reconstruction only).

  • The surgery includes Male-to-Female (MtF) and Female-to-Male (FtM) reassignment. Certain criteria must be met before any procedures are performed. The PEHP will not cover cosmetic procedures that are not medically necessary.
  • You can seek initial treatment at the hospital where your doctor practices. If a complication from the surgery occurs, you will then need to use a Parkland facility.

For More Details

The 2022 PEHP SPD (available around Jan.1, 2022) will include more details on these benefits.

Need-To-Know Info

  1. Virtual Benefits Fair. Missed the live events? You can still watch recorded webinars and videos and download handouts. Visit the fair.
  2. Telemedicine benefits still available. Get medical care anytime, anywhere. You and your covered dependents can use the Teladoc benefit if you’re enrolled in the PEHP. You’ll pay a $24 copay for each Teladoc visit. The PEHP also covers virtual visits when you see a physician who is not in the Teladoc network. You’ll pay your regular office visit copay (for Tier 1 and Tier 2), which differs depending on the tier of your doctor.
  3. Reminder: The PEHP covers preventive care for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted infection (STI) at no cost to you. This coverage includes testing and screenings, PrEP prescriptions for HIV prevention and certain types of counseling. See the Summary Plan Description (SPD) for details.
